IAFF Local 4971 History

MacArthur Airport Fire Rescue provides year-round 24/7 EMS, fire, rescue and emergency services to the passengers, fliers, and employees of Long Island MacArthur Airport (LIMA) in Ronkonkoma, NY. Led by Chief Airport Fire Safety Officer Albert Cinotti, the staff of Firefighter/EMTs fully trained in Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) are available to respond within a moment’s notice anywhere on the Airport’s 1,300 acre property. The Airport Fire Safety Officers also respond to emergencies when called upon to assist local volunteer fire departments requiring a specialized response for firefighting foam, large amounts of water, or hazardous materials and also provide EMS assistance around the perimeter of the property. The department is also responsible for assisting in airport operations, including airfield lighting, snow removal, and wildlife hazard mitigation.

Local 4971 was established on October 18, 2013 to represent the staff of MacArthur Airport Fire Rescue and support their mission of providing exemplary service to all users of the Airport.

LIMA is an FAA Part 139 certificated Index B airport with more than 7,000 annual aircraft departures situated 60 miles east of New York City in central Suffolk County. The airport is owned and operated by the Town of Islip, and serves approximately 1,000,000 airline passengers annually, as well as many GA aircraft utilizing the Airport’s three Fixed-Base Operators.
